18 January 2012 – The commissioner of the Jonglei State county of Akobo told a visiting team of UNMISS staff members today that a comprehensive civilian disarmament campaign can be implemented in the strife-torn state to restore a measure of peace and stability.

26 Dec, 2011 - The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) today urged the Government of the Republic of South Sudan to take all measures necessary to protect civilians in Jonglei state.

5 January 2012 – Upper Nile University reopened its doors today for the first time in nearly a year.

Approximately 5,000 students are expected to register at the university's campuses in Malakal and Renk later this month and lectures are scheduled to begin on 31 January.
