UNMISS chief David Shearer on Thursday attended his welcome reception in Juba amongst government officials, members of the diplomatic community and UN colleagues. In his remarks, he spoke about his “conviction that a brighter future lies ahead of South Sudan”.

“Hate speech has the potential to instill long term hatred in society,” warns Angelina Daniel, a South Sudanese women’s activist and civil society campaigner.

The newly arrived head of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), David Shearer, has said that the mission is “committed to helping the South Sudanese create the conditions of peace and security,” that internally displaced people need in order to feel confident about returning home.
