UK Troops start engineering work in Malakal Protection of Civilians Site

British military engineers have arrived in Malakal to join the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. The UK Engineers have started work to upgrade a culvert on a main supply road that is used by both civilian and UN military personnel to access the Protection of Civilians site.

The members of the Security Council strongly condemned the attack against the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) on 3 May in Leer, South Sudan. The members of the Security Council expressed appreciation for the actions taken by UNMISS peacekeepers to repel the attack.

GENEVA (4 May 2017) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein on Thursday urged the Government of South Sudan to halt any further military offensives towards Aburoc on the west bank of the River Nile in the Upper Nile region.

Government officials in the Imotong State held an honorary celebration for Torit-native, Stella Itongo Nmedeo Ohiri. Stella recently returned from a five day trip to Kampala, Uganda to compete in the World Cross Country Championships.

The UNMISS Civil Affairs Division organized a football match between teachers and students of Ngath Secondary School via the school’s Peace and Human Rights Club. The game drew a huge audience and ended in 1 – 1 draw.
