The UNMISS Civil Affairs Division organized a football match between teachers and students of Ngath Secondary School via the school’s Peace and Human Rights Club. The game drew a huge audience and ended in 1 – 1 draw.

The teachers took an early lead in the first half but could not bear with the mounting pressure in the second half by students.

Speaking after the match, Allen Gibril Turay, the CAD team leader, expressed optimism and urged students, teachers and spectators to engage in activities that unite each other.

“I was impressed by this game. This is a manifestation of peace which the UNMISS and the government want to prevail in South Sudan. It is my hope that one day, things will change for better in this young and beloved country,” Turay stressed.

On behalf of the school, Peter Matur Mangol, said that unity and peace will come to Ngath Secondary School through sports.

“Sport promotes peace and unity; it encourages team work and creates socialization among the people. Therefore, peace and unity will flourish at my school, in Western Lakes and South Sudan at large if young people are engaged in sport activities,” Matur stated.

The UNMISS supports the establishment and activities of the Peace and Human Rights Club in each of the secondary schools in Greater Lakes states.
