SEA campaign launched in Kuajok

3 December 2013 - Hundreds of local residents joined together today in Kuajok, Warrap State, at the government’s launch of its nation-wide campaign on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA).

Representatives from the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, Ministry of Gender and Child Social Welfare, UNMISS, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and religious as well as community leaders were present for the UNMISS-supported event at Freedom Square Football Stadium.

After the football match, speeches were given on the importance of saying “no” to SEA and a trophy was presented to the winning team.

Prior to the football match, UNMISS organized a programme for 30 participants at the Ministry of Gender and Child Social Welfare to learn about SEA.

“Warrap State stands against any damages to society, so our government is organizing against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse,” Acting State Governor Nyandeng Malek told the gathering.

Participants then watched the film “Break the Silence”, which was followed by a discussion on their understanding of the film and issues related to SEA.

“It is important to raise awareness, so such activities (do not) happen to the community, especially the vulnerable groups, women and young girls,” said participant Maria Sood Anthony.
