23 August 2013 - Seeking to better manage traffic accidents, some 26 South Sudan police officers today completed a three-week course held by UN Police in Rumbek, Lakes States.

UNPOL Advisor Ranjana Chauhan said the training for South Sudan National Police Service (SS{S) officers aimed to highlight traffic accident investigation and management as well as implementation of the South Sudan Traffic Act.

"Your responsibility to protect, to save the lives of local people ... and to manage, regulate and implement rules and regulations that exist in South Sudan, Mr. Chauhan said at the closing ceremony in Rumbek Police Club.

Lakes State Director of Traffic Police Mayal Apioth Atem called on the UN Police to play a positive role in improving traffic police capacity, expressing the hope that more training would occur.
