Torit youths learn about UNMISS Mandate

The Communication and Public Information Section in Torit presented its work and explained the new UNMISS mandate to 32 attending youths.

The first Director General from the State Ministry of Information, James Lemor, praised the Mission’s ongoing educational efforts in Torit.

“These information sessions  should continue and should not only be limited to specific groups like youths but also include journalists from our local radio stations and national newspapers ’, Lemor said.

Emmanuel Boniface, manager of the Youth Center and Officer in Charge of the Whitaker Foundation for Peace Initiative, said UNMISS has introduced a these educational efforts to create awareness and a better understanding of UNMISS, its mandate and its implications for the local population.

“Now, I have become familiar with the duties of each substantive section of UNMISS, and I ‘m able to approach any section in case there is a need for UNMISS assistance. Now I understand which section to approach about any specific issue”, said John Power, a wildlife officer who also benefits from the literacy service provided at the Whitaker Youth Center.

Since last June and on a weekly basis, UNMISS has brought representatives from its different substantive sections to the Whitaker Foundation for Peace Initiative to brief the youths frequenting the institutions.
