Training on good governance and conflict resolution to youth kicks off in Yambio

Youth groups from the five payams of Yambio attended a three day training on good governance and conflict resolution designed to equip them with the skills to manage conflict in the community.

The workshop was organized by the Community Empowerment for Rehabilitation and Development Organization (CEFORD), and was held just days after clashes between SPLA soldiers and armed youth in Yambio.

The CEFORD project officer, Asienzo Sony Valentino, said that training in Yambio is very important.  The youth have been involved in situations of conflict, and have taken to organizing themselves in the bush and demanding a way to find a solution to their problems.

Asienzo stated that, CEFORD has been operating in Mundri, Maridi, Ibba, and Nzara respectively since last year to bring the youth and civil society groups together to sensitize them on how to manage conflict and find solutions to their problems.

Aseinzo appealed to the Government of South Sudan to fully implement the peace agreement which she believes will stop the suffering and bloodshed in the Country. Also she urged all South Sudanese to embrace peace because war and conflict cannot solve problems.

The youth in Ibba county also raised concern over the lack of a secondary school which forces them to travel to other counties looking for education. According to James Kubako, one of the participants, “The youth are organizing themselves to meet with the County authority to present their concern over the lack of a secondary school in the County to help continue with their education.”
