UN family cleans up Malakal hospital

22 October 2013 - The UN family in Upper Nile State cleaned up Malakal Teaching Hospital today in a run-up to the celebration of UN Day on 24 October.

Director General of Malakal Teaching Hospital Dr. John Chol said the hospital was “privileged” to celebrate the Day with this activity. “We hope the work that has been started by the UN body will continue as we continue to build the new nation.”

He acknowledged other UN support for the hospital. “They provide medicines and feeding for malnourished children. We (also) thank the chief of UNMISS for sending a vehicle to help us remove waste … because our vehicle is broken down.”

UNMISS Upper Nile State Coordinator Deborah Schien said that UN was supporting the government by providing basic services and health care for people.

During the cleaning, UN staff planted trees and distributed condoms in the hospital and market areas.
