UNMISS BAN FMU medical outreach effort in Mangalla

A medical outreach campaign was conducted in the village of Mangalla by the UNMISS Bangladesh Navy Force Marine Unit (BANFMU).

An eighteen member medical team conducted the day-long effort treating more than 300 patients, including infants, with a wide range of needs.

The most common ailments among the populace included fever, cough, skin diseases, chest & joint pain, headache, backache, neck ache, UTI and abdominal pain, hyperacidity and dyspepsia. Most of the children treated have been suffering from diarrhoea, malnutrition, cough and loss of appetite.

The villagers of Mangalla do not have access to medical facilities, including a hospital or even a single private medical center. So, when the word traveled through the village and out-skirting areas that the UNMISS was on its way and was going to provide a free open clinic, the civilians made an extra effort to take advantage of this rare opportunity for diagnosis and treatment.
