The UNMISS civilian and military components organized an outreach event with the communities around the UNMISS’ dumping site at Makembele, Rumbek. The communities received trainings on health awareness, the Mission’s mandate and farming techniques.

Speaking during the occasion, the NepBatt commander Lt Col. Sushil Kumar Silwal thanked the residents of Makembele for turning up and urged them to put into use the farming tools and seeds they received from UNMISS.

“Thank you for coming to interact with us. I would like to urge you to use the tools and seeds we gave you for farming,” Mr. Kumar said.

Meanwhile Director-General of the State Ministry of Agriculture Mr. John Malith Rual commended UNMISS’ collaboration and challenged the Makembele residents to get rid of hunger by hard work.

“The UN is here because it is part of us. Without the UN, South Sudan would not have become a free nation. I acknowledge their support and collaboration. I would like to advise you to work hard in order to get rid of hunger and poverty. If you to fight hunger then sweat first,” Mr. Malith stressed.

During the event NepBatt distributed nine different types of seeds, handed over ten farming tools, gave out sport equipment and medicine.
