UNMISS conducts information workshop in Western Equatoria

13 December 2013 - UNMISS today held a one-day workshop on information management for local government officials and community leaders in Nzara County, Western Equatoria State.

Some 30 participants attended the workshop, which was also aimed at sensitizing the local leaders on the role of UNMISS, good governance and gender issues.

“I (appreciate) this workshop because information sharing can create a conflict among the people if it is not done properly,” said acting county commissioner Sadick Yusif.

He asked UNMISS to regularly conduct similar workshops, noting that it was important for local leaders and the community to know how to report on issues like security through proper administration chains.

“The government may not have enough resources to create awareness among the public to sensitize them on other issues but its partners should continue supporting and educating our communities,” said Mr. Yusif.

UNMISS will conduct similar workshops in all ten counties of the state, targeting both government institutions and representatives of the civil society.
