UNMISS conducts mandate and conflict workshop in Jur River

8 June 2015 - Educating local residents on the mission and conflict, UNMISS held a workshop today in Jur River County of Western Bahr El-Ghazal State.

The workshop, conducted with the Public Information and Civil Affairs sections, attracted chiefs, payam (district) administrators and representatives of country men’s and women’s.

Topics focused on the work of UNMISS and conflict management as well as mitigation.

Asked about how they could contribute to UNMISS’ mandate to protect civilians, participants said, “We can cooperate with you. We can report the kind of human rights violations being committed against our people.”

Commenting on the workshop’s significance, participant Joseph Deng said it would “help me understand what the UN is doing in this nation”.

Participants vowed to support UNMISS in protecting civilians by ensuring peace and security in their localities.
