UNMISS donates health care items to Torit state hospital

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan has on donated about more than 500 assorted items of preventive health care which include soap, mosquito nets, bed sheets and blankets to the Torit State Hospital.

The items were handed over to the hospital’s administration by the UNMISS Head of Torit Field Office Mary Cummins. Ms. Cummins said the donation was made possible through coordination with UNFPA which was able to identify the immediate needs for items of preventive health care by the hospital.

 “We are very pleased on behalf of UNMISS here in Torit to donate to Torit Hospital a number of sheets, blankets, mosquito nets and soap for the use of patients who are attending this hospital, we have also donated stuff for outpatients and for the maternity wing” said Ms. Cummins.

On behalf of the hospital’s administration Mr. James Obwoch, acknowledged UNMISS for what he said is a generous donation which came at the right time, when the hospital is in great need. He went to say event though Torit hospital is well equipped yet it is being faced with the problem of qualified manpower as most have resigned and left the profession …

“At the moment the Torit Hospital is well equipped, but our issue is human resource we have been hiring expert but with the current issues some of have managed to resigned and has goes off form the hospital.”

Meanwhile the Hospitals matron commended UNMISS for the job well done and said the items will be put to good use.

“The mosquito nets we give to the patients when they are going home they live it for the other patients who are going to come; they don’t take it along with them, except for the mothers they take it along with them.”
