UNMISS facilitates two-day workshop on inter-institutional collaboration in Rumbek

To increase the collaboration between different branches of the government protecting civilians, the UNMISS facilitated a two-day workshop in Rumbek town.

Participants were drawn from the three arms of the government, as well as youth, women and civil society organizations.

“We have felt that it is important for this workshop to be held...so we can talk about and be able to understand our roles as enshrined in the constitution as judiciary, as legislators, as the executive”, said the UNMISS Head of Field Office Mr. Kwame Dwamena-Aboagye during the opening of the workshop.

Apart from presentations about the functions of the different branches of government, participants were also encouraged to engage in discussions among themselves about the way forward concerning accountability, rule of law, participation and transparency.

Mr. Lual Riak Marier from Rumbek University immediately showed initiative by opening the doors of the university for the government officials. “We are ready to give public lectures to all of you.”

The participants expressed their appreciation for the initiative by UNMISS. “We have learned a lot in these two days”, said the Political Advisor and representative of the Governor Mr. Mabor Mayen Wol during the closing ceremony. “Such workshops should be continuously organized.”
