UNMISS visits Radio Jonglei

24 April 2013 - Seeking to assist Radio Jonglei in meeting challenges it faces, a team of peacekeepers from the UNMISS Korean Engineering Unit visited the station in Bor today.

The radio was lacking a fence, sufficient office space, generator, air-conditioning and transport for journalists, its director, Malek Gutnyin, told Engineering Unit Deputy Commander Lt. Col. Han Changhee.

The Korean unit noted the difficulties and assured the radio's management it would raise the matter with other colleagues.

Radio Jonglei, launched in April 2010 to foster peace and unity among different tribes in the state, is a major partner of UNMISS.

With a wide reach covering almost three quarters of South Sudan's largest state, the radio broadcasts peace-building messages and explains the mission's role, mainly in Arabic and English, but also in the other local languages.
