USG Atul Khare arrives in South Sudan

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Field Support, Atul Khare, arrived in South Sudan today for a three-day visit.

Soon after his arrival in Juba, Mr. Khare met with the South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Benjamin Marial.

The top UN Field Support official highlighted the United Nations’ “willingness, commitment and desire” to work with the government to bring peace and development to South Sudan.

Mr. Khare, who also met with Senior UNMISS officials, is expected to see for himself various workings of the UN, while discussing various issues of the UN peacekeeping operations.

He will also hold discussions with various members of the diplomatic community.

On 2 December, the Under-Secretary-General will to travel to the Jonglei State capital Bor, where he will visit the protection of civilians site at the UNMISS base.
