Warrap SSNPS launches network for policewomen

8 October 2012 - Seeking to promote female police officers in Warrap State, the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) launched the SSNPS Women's Network today in the Warrap State capital Kuajok.

The network aims to advance the profile of women police officers and develop strategies to increase their number.

Warrap State Police Commissioner Maj. Gen. Nicola Dimo Biajio said that women in the state needed to be empowered through education.

"Our women here are lacking education; they need to be brought up (to a higher level)," said Maj. Gen. Biajo. "We don't want to be leaving anyone behind, we want to go together."

"... After closing the (ongoing) adult education training we will look for another opportunity to ... educate these women to be better women in South Sudan," he added.

UN Police in the state is currently providing English Language training for network members to assist them in achieving their full potential.

Activities at the ceremony included tree-planting and oath-taking by 30 network members.
