CPI Section conducts a workshop for Wau Legislative Assembly members

Governor of Wau State urges the South Sudanese to develop a culture of dialogue and peaceful discussion by avoiding violent actions.

The governor, Lt. General Elias Waya, made the remark while opening a workshop organized by the UNMISS Communications and Public Information Section for Wau State Assembly members on mission mandate and protection of civilians.

“Our country is passing through a critical era in our history,” the governor said.

Lt. General Elias Waya reiterated the government’s readiness to work closely with the UNMISS to bring peace and development.

“At this particular time, of course we have to be in contact with the rest of the world,” he said.

He also stressed the need to learn lessons from previous experiences to bring a bright future to the people.

UNMISS Head of Field Mission in Western Bahr el Ghazal, Ms. Winnie Babihuga, said that South Sudan is now in a new dispensation that is geared for peace.

“We are in a dispensation where leadership must stand up towards reaching out for peace building efforts,” Ms. Winnie said.

She stated that UNMISS recognizes the function of members of the legislative assembly as it is extremely important in the affairs of the state.

“This house whether it is made up of 2 people or 40 people, it is an important arm of governance.”

She stressed that the outreach workshop has great significance for the UNMISS to receive constructive feedback from the participants.

“From the side of the mission, we talk about ourselves. And we also want a feedback from you of what you think about us.”

Civil Affairs Division, Child Protection Section and the Human Rights Division also presented their respective mandates during the workshop.

The participants urged the UNMISS to scale up efforts in the mission’s mandate sensitization campaigns by focusing on the military and the police.
