Humanitarians appeal for more Protection.

Regina Gorle - Radio Miraya

Humanitarian workers in South Sudan are appealing for full protection and safe passage as they continue to face restrictions in reaching people in need.  John Lobor Secretary General of the South Sudan Red Cross, says their only agenda is to provide lifesaving assistance.

CE-19 August 2016-John Lobor

“Humanitarian aid workers according to International Humanitarian Law actually and their assets are supposed to be protected. Secondly Humanitarian aid workers are people that have the agenda of only providing Humanitarian Service to the local population that are affected,  but on the contrary of cause there are issues of perceptions that sometimes result to aid workers being victimized or being harassed or even losing their lives in the process of providing assistance to people they are supposed to be providing ,but I believed that to overcome this challenges we need to be in constant dialogue with the Key players that always are in charge of providing protection.

A minute of silence will be held today to pay tribute to colleagues who have lost their lives in humanitarian service, as well as to those who are staying and delivering assistance, and those affected by attacks against aid workers.
