#IWD2016; In Rumbek, the Women's Association had taken the lead in the organization of International Women’s Day, supported by UNMISS and other partners. “Today we are calling upon the government and members of the general public to uphold, respect and promote women’s rights so that there is an end to domestic violence, early and forced marriage in the state”, spoke Chairlady of the Women Association Ms. Agum Joseph Kuc during the celebration event at Freedom Square in Rumbek Town.

The State Governor Mr. Abraham Makoi Bol Kodi seized the opportunity to recall the relentless contribution women did during the entire SPLM/A liberation war: “This is a great day because if I can recall, during the war of liberation, women did marvelous work. They took care of families while their husbands were busy fighting the enemy. They provided food to the SPLA who could not have time to cultivate.”
