Lakes State traditional leaders attend peace conference

11 December 2014 - Aiming to put in place measures for conflict resolution and reconciliation, a peace conference ended today in the Lakes State capital, Rumbek.

Traditional leaders from all eight counties in the state attended the two-day conference which was organized by civil society members of the National Platform for Peace and Reconciliation.

The forum sought to come up with action points that the leaders can implement in their communities in resolving conflicts and fostering inter-communal reconciliation.

Some of the action points arising out of the conference included awareness-raising on peace, outreach on human rights and inclusion of youth in reconciliation activities.

The Peace Advisor to the Governor, Ezekiel Thiang, appreciated the importance of the meeting and pledged that the state government would support the traditional leaders in implementing the action points.

“Making peace is very hard,” said Mr. Thiang. “Therefore we will work together.”
