New UNMISS Police Commissioner assumes his duties

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Police Commissioner, Mr. Frederick Yiga, has completed his tour of duty. He has occupied this position since May 2012. His successor, Rwanda’s Commissioner of Police Bruce Munyambo, has formally assumed responsibility in the role of the Head of UNMISS Police on Monday 29 February 2016.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Munyambo was holding the position of the Commissioner for Operations and Public Order in Rwanda National Police.

Bruce Munyambo began his career in UN Peacekeeping in 2008 as an individual police officer in the United Nations Mission in Liberia. From 2014 to 2015, he was the contingent commander of Rwanda Formed Police Unit in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.

Mr. Munyambo holds a Master’s degree in International Strategic Leadership and Management. In 2004 he graduated from Leicester University in the United Kingdom with a postgraduate certificate in Criminal Justice and Police Management. In 2014, he received a Diploma in Institutionalizing Research for Governance and Leadership at Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands. He also attended the International Commanders and Strategic Command courses at Police Staff College, Bramshill, UK.
