Some 1000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have voluntarily started leaving the UNMISS protection-of-civilians (PoC) site in the Upper Nile State capital Malakal, the mission’s spokesperson Ariane Quentier said today.
A team from the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) mediation secretariat arrived in South Sudan on 13 October to follow up on implementation of the peace agreement, a secretariat official said in Juba today.
By rehabilitating the airstrip in the Western Equatoria State capital Yambio, UNMISS was enhancing the state government’s ability to deliver services, a senior state official said today.
UNMISS recently started long duration patrols to Bentiu town, Unity State to closely assess the security situation and conditions for humanitarians actors to expand their operations.

To support the South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) in its efforts to rebuild confidence and trust, UNMISS Police Commissioner Fred Yiga today visited three police posts in areas identified for voluntary return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Juba.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) had been able to recently deliver livelihood assistance to food-insecure households in areas that hadn’t been reached since the start of the conflict in South Sudan, the UN agency said today.

9 September 2015 - With a child becoming severely malnourished every two minutes, the nutrition situation in South Sudan remained dire, UNICEF Country Representative Jonathan Veitch said in a press statement today.
