Parliamentarians learn roles, proceedings and media

19 March 2014 - Aiming to enhance parliamentarians’ skills, UNMISS concluded a workshop today for state assembly members on vital aspects of their work in Wau, Western Bahr El-Ghazal State.

The two-day training focused on parliament’s roles, parliamentary proceedings, public relations, protocol and media, including human rights.

“The presence of UNMISS in WBGS (Western Bahr El-Ghazal State) is really a blessing … from time to time they are in touch with our people in various ministries and particularly in the state assembly”, said Mr. Paul Atuk, state Advisor representing the Governor.

He urged all participants to acquaint themselves during the training with relevant documents, especially the state constitution and conduct of business, so that they could effectively carry out their duties.

UNMISS State Coordinator Winnie Babihuga urged parliamentarians to support peace and security in the state. “All members of the assembly should speak out on what is good for the people.”

“We need more of these trainings on issues related to our work”, said participant Peter Andal, calling on UNMISS and other organizations to support the assembly by building its capacity.
