Yirol gets water piping system and community resource centre

18 March 2014 - Humanitarian Coordinator Toby Lanzer today handed over a water piping system and community resource centre to county authorities in Yirol, Lakes State.

“Such centres can be places where citizens can come together to work towards peace and development in their communities,” Mr. Lanzer said, speaking during the ceremony.

The centre was constructed by the UN Development Program (UNDP).

The water piping system, constructed by UNHABITAT, will give 30,000 people access to water. “I hope it will make their lives a little bit more comfortable, Mr. Lanzer said. “It is part of the development of Lakes State that we are all trying to foster.”

Spokesperson for the President Ateny Wek Ateny said, “These are development projects which will send a signal to the people to understand that the role of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan is to support the government.”
