South Koreans donate sporting goods to Jonglei university

19 November 2013 - Seeking to enhance educational facilities in Jonglei State, UNMISS South Korean engineers today donated sporting goods to Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology in the capital Bor.

Worth a total of $3,000, the items included 20 soccer uniforms, 10 balls, two goalkeeper uniforms, two whistles, one air pump and two goal posts. The South Koreans also cleared a new football ground adjacent to the university.

University Vice Chancellor Professor Aggrey Ayuen Majok expressed appreciation for the items and also commended the engineers for their community road work.

“I have seen that your team has been maintaining the road and helping to prevent floods, which are commendable works,” he said.

Noting that the university currently had over 25,000 books in its library, Chancellor Majok invited the South Koreans to visit the facility at their convenience.

South Korean peacekeeper Major Lim Moo Song said the donation and engineering works were meant to improve the university’s educational environment, pledging to continue working with the community.

The engineers have also supported students of Bor Orphan, Trauma and Healing Centre by cementing classroom floors, setting-up blackboards and donating desks, chalkboards, erasers and other school supplies.

In addition, the South Koreans have trained over 80 students of Bor Royal Academy in traditional martial arts and soccer.
