In an attempt to restore and maintain peaceful coexistence among communities, the UNDP, in partnership with the UNMISS organized a two day workshop for more than 40 members of various civil society groups on the topics of conflict prevention and community security.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, Mr. Alois Neza Sikuka, a UNDP representative, urged all participants to translate, into concrete actions, all they’d just experienced during the past days discussions.

“I am very happy to see this big and timely turn up. This shows civil society in Rumbek is very serious. I am very impressed and I look forward to help building your capacity to offer better services to the people. As you go back to your offices, homes, friends, and family, let there be change. Let what you have been taught here translate into action,” Mr. Alois stated.

Another participant, Mr. John Malith Rual, the leader of the Civil Society Organizations Network (CISON), thanked the UNMISS and the UNDP for their support, and challenged his colleagues to maximize the opportunities they have with this new found knowledge.

“I would like to commend, in a very special way, the UNMISS and the UNDP for organizing this workshop. I appeal to you my fellow colleagues to make a difference in the community. It is now time for our people to live in peace, be law-abiding citizens,” Malith stressed.

The CISON vehemently underscored that peace is a collective responsibility.
