On 10 August, UNMISS Gender Unit briefed women on the Security Council Resolution 1325, which urges all actors to increase the participation of women and incorporate gender perspectives in peace and security efforts.

UNMISS Gender Officer Mihad Abdallhah engaged with women in Nhialdiu of Rubkona County and informed them about the important role that women are required to play to participate in the  promotion of peace and ensuring the safety of their communities.

“Women should not be neglected in decision making at family, community and at higher levels in all aspects of life”, Mihad Abdallah said, adding that women bear a lot of the consequences of conflict and war.

During the briefing a local female chief, Victoria Nhkering, stressed the need to assist women to enable them to become more involved.

“Women need empowerment and capacity building  to actively become involved  in the efforts  underway to address the multifaceted problems faced by women as a result of conflict”, she said.

Among other concerns, the women participating in the event requested humanitarian actors to support them with non- food items like mosquito nets and batteries for night time lighting.
