UNMISS hands over mended Mvolo – Tonj road in Rumbek

In support of the mandate and in order to ensure smooth delivery of humanitarian assistance, UNMISS tasked its Chinese engineers (CHN HMEC) to repair the 220 km road between Mvolo and Tonj.

Speaking on behalf of the Head of Field Office, Mr. Imad Audeh, said the UNMISS throughout the country pledged to embark on repairing main supply routes to ensure ease of movement of persons, goods and services.

“UNMISS leadership decided to improve road condition through all over in South Sudan, the main target of this to facilitate and ease the movement of personnel and cargo in order to achieve the Mandate, because the humanitarian agencies will use this roads to supply the required items for the needy people all over”, said Mr. Audeh.
 
The Deputy Governor, Ms. Louis Agum Reuben, on behalf of the state government appreciated the UNMISS for fixing this road. She said roads equal development.

“Let me seize this chance to appreciate UNMISS for keeping us connected through this important route. Road is a development. I appeal to you my people to stop road ambushes. Without peace, a good road like this means nothing”, said Ms. Reuben.

On the same occasion, the Executive Chief of the Matangai Payam, Mr. Mangar Dhal, said roads are lifelines in any society.

Mr. Dhal stressed “A good road is a source of life and it reflects good image of the country.  I am very thankful to the UNMISS for revamping this road that connects Bhar el Gazal states. When there is a decent road people can access education and health services with ease.”

The handover ceremony was attended by government officials, OCHA representatives and members of the general public.
