UNMISS INDBATT meets with Governor of Jonglei State on cooperation for peace and development

Brigadier General BK Rattanpal, Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Sector East in Bor and Colonel Aditya Kanwal, Indian Battalion Commander (INDBATT-2), met this week with the Governor of Jonglei State John Kong Nyon and key civil and military state officials at the governor’s office.

The meeting aimed at discussing the cooperation between UNMISS and the local authorities towards peace and development in the state. This initiative has been taken by the Infantry Battalion Group KUMAON deployed in Jonglei as a proactive step to promote social engagement and reach out to the local population.

On this occasion, Colonel Aditya Kanwal presented a memento symbolizing the good bilateral cooperation between the two parties in supporting the development of Jonglei State and the whole country.

Governor Kong expressed his gratitude for the services rendered by UNMISS and INDBATT-2 to ensure peace and stability in the state. He emphasized the importance of information sharing and communication between UNMISS military component and SPLA the organized forces of South Sudan.

The State Minister of Law and Enforcement Peter Wal Athiu, appreciated the community services being provided by INDBATT-2 as Police Commissioner Maj Gen Thukul Ayom Deng thanked UNMISS for maintaining peace and vigilance in the area.

The UNMISS Sector Commander East, Brigadier General BK Rattanpal and Indian Battalion Commander Colonel Aditya Kanwal reassured the state representatives of extending continued services beyond the operational  mandate towards the holistic development of South Sudan.
