UNMISS Indian Battalion organises three-day veterinary camp in Melut

Ahead of the festive season, the Indian Battalion (INDBATT) operating in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)  base of Melut, Upper Nile State, organised a veterinary camp for the local population.

On 22 December 2015, a veterinary team coming from Malakal opened a three-day camp in Danthoma under the supervision of Lt Col V.K. Singh. Along with treatment of animals, the veterinary experts carried out the distribution of supplements and medicines for the well-being of the cattle in the area. On the second day, the team worked vigorously to carry out treatment on 280 heads of cattle.

For the last day of the event, mobile veterinary teams visited numerous cattle herds and grazers dispersed in the Melut County area. The team distributed medicines and met with local herders to understand the problems they are facing and to advise them on cattle health issues.

The camp was well received and appreciated by the local population. Recognising the efforts of INDBATT, the County Commissioner of Melut expressed his gratitude to the veterinary team and UNMISS Commander at Melut base.

The County Commissioner also applauded the contribution of Indian troops which has an affirmative effect on the security situation and development process in the area.
