UNMISS launches renovation of secondary school in Cueibet

Aiming to strengthen relations with the local community, UNMISS recently launched a project to renovate Cueibet Secondary School in Lakes.

UNMISS Head of Field Office, Kwame Dwamena Aboagye, revealed that the Mission would use from its Quick Impact Projects to renovate four classrooms, three offices and two stores.

He noted that the renovations were vital because the school provides access to secondary education for hundreds of students in the county.

“We are here in Cueibet trying to renovate this very important school, so that it can be entry point for all the students in primary schools who would want to further their studies,” said Mr. Aboagye.

The Catholic Diocese of Rumbek, which will be the implementing partner, is prepared to complete the work in less than six months, said Diocesan Coordinator Fr. John Mathiang Machol.

“We are ready to finish the renovation within six months because we have bought all materials needed for the renovation,” he said.

Noting that the school would ensure that children in the area are not sent to other places in search of better schools, Paramount Chief Run Arol applauded UNMISS for its contribution.

“The renovation of this learning facility will help reduce out flux of our children in search of better schools,” said Mr. Arol. “I am also appealing to UNMISS to fence the schools.”

The school is expected to benefit more than one thousand students all over the county.
