World Refugee Day, celebrated on 20 June, honours the courage and determination of men, women and children forced to flee their homelands under threat of persecution, conflict and violence. The theme this year is "One family torn apart by war is too many". According to the UN Refugee Agency, there are an estimated 223,754 refugees in South Sudan, of which more than 85 per cent are from Sudan (June 2013).
