Many thousands of people have sought protection after recent violence in Wau. A lack of accountability for abuses against civilians remains a huge challenge, according to the UNMISS Human Rights Director.

Various components of UNMISS and humanitarian actors were involved in putting out fires and assisting affected internally displaced persons in the Bentiu PoC site.
Swift, well-coordinated actions by different components of UNMISS saw two separate outbreaks of fire in the Bentiu protection of civilians site being taken care of without any resulting deaths or injuries. The fires, occurring over the weekend, destroyed a total of 117 shelters.
Dr. Bny Agyiri is part of the Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT) based in Leer. So far, Dr. Agyiri has delivered 35 babies, with a 100 per cent survival rate, in an area with no other health facilities.

The President of South Sudan, H.E Salva Kiir, has today received the outgoing Under Secretary-General of the United Nations for Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous, in Juba.
UNMISS Peacekeepers from Bangladesh, China and Nepal were involved in the rescue operation following a plane crash in Wau on 20 March.
The UN Peacekeeping chief Hervé Ladsous and the Under-Secretary General designate Jean-Pierre Lacroix are in Juba on an official visit, here in a meeting with South Sudan's first vice president Taban Deng Gai.
The UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to allow humanitarian assistance to reach communities in need.
